Vision Boards…?

Vision Boards…?

You, like me, are probably hearing a lot about vision boards or dream boards right now. With the new year now in swing and people back at their normal (or as close to normal as possible) routines and trying to plan for the future and this year, this very hopeful year after what most people have thought of 2016 as a year of horrors. I am going to digress for a moment here and mention that 2016 was a hard year on many people and brought in a lot of things that people didn’t want to see or deal with and took away things people were relying on or holding dearly. What most people are failing to see is that it was actually a year of releasing, changing, and growth and like a snake shedding its skin there is a slow and sometimes painful process in shedding the old and growing. Embrace the hardship and trials of 2016 feel the emotions it brings up, write them down if you need to, honour them and let them out, and then release them. I find setting things on fire to be a very nice way to release them (in a fireplace, fire pit, or a fireproof container of some sort), but burying them in the ground or tossing the torn up bits into flowing water (toilet, river, stream, or other moving water) works just as well. Now back to the topic at hand vision boards.

Many people in the goal setting, spiritual, and visualization frame of thought and world are talking all about vision boards and dream boards and the benefits of them in achieving your goals some are even holding classes and events for them (like my friend and I are on January 15th, 2017) and this might have you asking why and how do they work? The short answer is I don’t know how they work but I plan to find out this year by creating my very first one. The longer answer is that they seem to work by giving you the time to think about what you would like to achieve for the year and letting you make a visual representation of those goals and dreams. You then look at it daily and it keeps you focused on what you truly want for the year and how you want to feel and helps you manifest it in reality. This is exactly what I want to do for this year, I want a plan, a road map, and something to help keep me focused on my dreams this year.

If you go on Pinterest or do a search on vision boards you will find lots of different examples of things that people are doing and ways they have used them to achieve their goals and manifest things, I found the one above on Pinterest from Close to my Heart as it’s a great example 0f what you can create with one. One of the things that has always kept me back from making one is the time to make one so to curb that I am having friends over with snacks and drinks to create our very own dreams.

The other thing that has kept me from doing one is that I don’t read magazines and so I don’t have material to cut up; I have tried to create 0ne on Pinterest but it doesn’t hold the same power for me. This is a screen shot of my board and that is pretty much all I put on there about 2 years ago and I never added anything to it after the night I created it. Some people are able to successfully use this as a dream board but it turns out I am a tangleable person who needs to be able to look at something each day and be reminded of it.

The other thing I have discovered is that there are a ton of apps for your phone that can help you create your own dream board and most of them even have a selection of good pictures for you to use or allow you to capture pictures from websites and load them onto the app to use. They range from free to $10 plus so you do need to look at the cost and what it is worth to you.

I am excited that in a little under a week I will be creating a visual representation of what I want 2017 to hold for me and what I will manifest, I am also very excited to be sharing this day with a few good friends and to help inspire them to reach their dreams too.
